David was born and raised on the Hawaiian island of Kauai and has been around horses for most of his life. Early on, he was exposed to some "pretty crude" methods of dealing with horses and quickly decided to look for a more sensitive yet still effective approach to horses and horsemanship. David's desire to learn more about horses has taken him to Australia and all over the United States.
During his late teens, David came to Colorado and spent three seasons
working for Moon Run Ranch's wilderness outfitting business. He guided clients and wrangled the Ranch's horses and mules. Through lots of help from friends and loads of experiments, David has been able to find more efficient, practical ways to approach communication with horses and their
riders. David has worked with such master horsemen as Pat Parelli, Brian Nuebert, and Randy Rieman. He incorporates his experience with AIKIDO into
his horsemanship classes to help riders stay focused, centered, and balanced. A David Carswell clinic is unique. His gentle soul, and quiet personality makes every rider feel comfortable and successful for their own personal best. David is very good with problem horses, and troubled people.
Because of his Tai Chi background he is able to disarm any negative attitude in both horse & rider. This leads to an open-ness and the perfect atmosphere for learning.

This year marks the sixth visit to Moon Run Ranch for private lessons &
colt starting. David has worked with all disciplines at the Ranch; show
hunters, dressage horses, trail horses, mules, unstarted colts, and pack
horses.
